Organic Vegetables Need Loving Too

We go to the store with shopping list in hand we buy only the best for our families.  We spend a little bit more for leaner meats, fresher seafood, and choose organic fruits, grains and vegetables any time we can.

But there is a potential danger looming that is a quite scary shadow at the end of an otherwise lit hall.

Yes, overall organic foods are a better choice.  But just because a food is labeled as organic does not mean that it is safe for you to consume from the package.  I was at a neighbor’s home after helping her bring in some groceries.  We had known each other for many years and both made our livings as dieticians.  I watched as she pulled a piece of broccoli out of the bag and began to eat it.  I think I bruised her hand as I slapped the organic green out of her palm before she took another bite.

Needless to say, she was slightly angry at me and rubbing her hand asked me why I had done that. I stood there dumbfounded.  She was two years my elder career wise so the thought that she did not know what possible dangerous act she was playing with.  The thoughts of how long she had been doing this for both her and her family loomed and I have to tell you I felt a mix of emotions that I can’t explain now except to say I was very afraid to tell her what she might be exposing herself and her family to.

Before I get too deep into the problem, let me fully explain, as best I can what the definition of organic is.  Organic foods are by definition non chemically altered and have no unnatural chemical pesticides used on them.  This means your beef isn’t filled with steroids, your chicken wasn’t fed other chickens, and your vegetables were not coated in inorganic pesticides. 

Before this makes you wonder why I slapped her hand, carefully note the wording; “Inorganic pesticides”. 

That is correct; if a pesticide is organic it can be used on organic veggies.  A common organic pesticide includes
